the prompt this whole guide is built on
Here are my old quizzes and notes for [class]. Make a practice test that covers the same topics in the same style: [number] multiple choice, [number] short answer and [number] longer questions. Write new questions instead of copying the old ones. Put the answer key at the very end with a one line explanation for each.
You have a stack of old quizzes, a notebook full of notes and a test next week. Rereading all of it feels productive and teaches you almost nothing new.
A practice test does more. Old quizzes show how your professor asks questions, and your notes cover everything taught since. Give AI both and it can write a fresh test in that same style, so the real one feels like the second time you've taken it.
How to do it
- Gather the old quizzes, homework you already got back and your notes for every unit the test covers. Photos or PDFs both work if your AI tool takes uploads. Free plans often cap uploads per day, so combine everything into one PDF if you can.
- Upload them, paste the prompt above and fill in how many of each question type your real test usually has.
- Skim the questions before you start. If one covers something your class never touched, cross it out.
- Set a timer for the length of the real test, close your notes and take it on paper.
- Grade it with the key, then use the follow up below on everything you missed.
For the ones you missed
I missed these: [paste the question numbers and my answers]. For each one, tell me which part of my notes covers it and explain the idea in two or three sentences. Then give me one new question on each. Hold the answers until I reply.
Round two
Make a second practice test on the same material, but weight it toward the topics I missed last time: [list them]. Put the answer key at the end again.
that's it. go try it tonight.
